Trust.Zone VPN Review

Trust.Zone is a basic and minimalistic VPN service based in Seychelles, an island country with no data retention laws. It is also one of the most affordable VPN providers on the market.

In this post, we’ll be looking at how the VPN performs when it’s put through different tests. Generally, the results were good, but the VPN still has a few drawbacks.

Trust-Zone-VPN

One thing to keep in mind is that Trust.Zone offers apps for Android and Windows only. This means macOS and iOS users have to rely on third-party apps.

In addition, the VPN service is somehow limited to the number of features offered when compared to other leading VPN providers.

On the upside, Trust.Zone offers a free trial and a 10-day money-back guarantee on all their paid plans. This offers a risk-free trial window where you don’t need to pay a dime.

Without wasting time, let’s look at the test results for the VPN service.

Jurisdiction

Trust.Zone was established by a company known as Trust Solutions Ltd.

As mentioned above, the company is based in Seychelles, which is a good privacy jurisdiction.

Seychelles is an archipelago of islands off the coast of East Africa. Trust.Zone is not a member of any surveillance alliance. The fact that a country is a group of small islands in the Indian Ocean makes it the ideal jurisdiction for a VPN service.

Trust.Zone has also confirmed its association with Tersys Group OÜ. Their terms of service state:

“Trust.Zone authorizes the Tersys Group OÜ (Distributor) with an address located at J.Poska, tn.11, Tallinn, Estonia to receive payments from customers of the software, websites, and other services provided by Trust.Zone.”

Recently, many VPN providers in overseas jurisdictions have been working with other companies for different purposes, including payment processing. It’s for the same reason that Trust.Zone sourced the services of the Estonian entity, Tersys Group OÜ.

NOTE: Estonia is also not a member of any Eyes Surveillance Groups.

Price of Trust.Zone VPN

Apart from being a cheap VPN service, Trust.Zone offers a free trial.

As you can see in the image below, you can save some money with their 2-year plan, which goes for only $2.88/month.

In addition to having the most competitive monthly rate, another advantage of the 2-year plan is that you can connect up to five devices at the same time.

Trust.Zone also offers dedicated IP addresses. This comes as an extra feature that can be purchased. The prices vary depending on your location.

For those looking to maintain anonymity when making payments, Trust.Zone accepts Bitcoin. The VPN service is currently offering a 10% discount for payments made using Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Payment methods accepted by the Trust.Zone include:

Free trial

If you are not sure about which subscription to choose, a free trial gives you the chance to test them out before making a payment. Trust.Zone allows you to use the VPN for 3 days or 1GB of data.

NOTE: You don’t need to provide your payment details to get started with Trust.Zone. Just create your account and test out the VPN. It’s that simple!

Using Trust.Zone

As you already know, Trust.Zone offers only two VPN clients.

These include:

Windows VPN software – Works with Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, 8 & 10

Android VPN app – Works with Android 4, 5, 6, 7 8 & 9

Although Trust.Zone is limited when it comes to VPN clients, they offer full support for other Operating Systems and devices, such as:

  • macOS
  • iOS
  • Linux
  • Gaming systems
  • Linux
  • Smart TVs
  • Amazon Fire TV and Fire Stick

Trust.Zone has a Connection Wizard that makes it easy to set up the VPN client on these devices or Operating Systems. This feature will take you through the following process:

  1. Select your Operating System
  2. Select a VPN protocol
  3. Choose a server location
  4. Follow custom instructions created following your previous selections.

Most VPN providers have a server configuration file that can be downloaded as a zip file. This can help you to set your VPN on a router.

Some people may find the lack of custom VPN apps for other Operating Systems and devices frustrating, especially macOS and iOS users. This is usually because third-party apps often have limited features and do not come with leak protection settings.

Windows App

The Trust.Zone Windows app performed well in testing. It might seem small and minimal, but it has a good layout and offers all the basic settings you need. The images below show the Trust.Zone VPN app (on the left) and the settings screen (on the right).

We tested Trust.Zone VPN client on a Windows 10 PC and here is how it performed:

  • Leak protection settings and kill switch work excellently to secure all traffic
  • Port selection was a breeze
  • Establishing reliable connection was quick
  • No errors, issues or bugs were experienced

Speed Tests

We also ran speed tests with the various servers in the United States and Europe. The results were quite impressive. The tests were performed with a baseline connection of 160 Mbps from Western Europe.

The results were as follows:

Server in Denmark

Speed – 147 Mbps

Server in France

Speed – 155 Mbps

As you can see, this was so close our baseline connection speed

Server in the UK

Speed – 154 Mbps

These speeds show that Trust.Zone would be the ideal option if you are looking for a fast and reliable VPN in the UK. Speeds for all the servers tested in Europe ranged between 145 and 155 Mbps, which is excellent.

We also tested servers in the United States and the results were impressive as well.

Server in New Jersey

Speed – 152 Mbps

Server in Miami, Florida

Speed – 112 Mbps

Server in Georgia

Speed – 118 Mbps

With these test speeds, it shows Trust.Zone is a great VPN for people who live in the United States.

Overall, Trust.Zone offers great speeds on all their servers. Speeds for servers in our location came so close to our baseline connection speed, at around 155 Mbps. These are one of the fastest VPN speeds we’ve recorded so far.

Privacy and Security with Trust.Zone VPN

Trust.Zone offers solid privacy and security. The VPN service uses AES-256-CBC cipher, SHA authentication, and an RSA-2048 handshake. In addition, Trust.Zone client comes with advanced leak protection settings, including DNS leak protection and kills switch.

The Windows VPN app did not present any IP address leaks or DNS leaks after testing it with different servers.

MacOS X – Trust.Zone does not have VPN software for macOS, but we were able to run tests with the help of Tunnelblick, a free open secure OpenVPN software for macOS. No issues or problems were reported.

NOTE: If you are using Tunnelblick on macOS for the purpose of using Trust.Zone, note that it does not have a kill switch. So, your traffic will not be blocked in the event that the VPN connection drops.

Using Trust.Zone VPN on Android devices

There are two ways to use Trust.Zone on Android devices:

  • Using OpeVPN on the OpenVPN connect app
  • Using L2TP/IPSec on the Android built-in VPN functionality

Basically, OpenVPN is more secure than L2TP/IPSec. In addition, OpenVPN allows you to switch from one server to another in a VPN network.

We did not experience any issues while testing the different VPN servers on Android.

Customer Support

After sending out a few random questions to the customer support team, we noticed they have a good response time. They responded to all the questions on the same day the tickets were submitted.

Trust.Zone does not have a live chat system, instead, they use a ticket-based support system, which can be accessed in the member’s section of their website.

However, one thing you will notice in user comments is that Trust.Zone does not offer support during weekends. The VPN service has explained this in the member’s area:

Support is available: Monday to Friday, 6:00 am to 4:00 pm GMT +0

Using Trust.Zone VPN for Torrenting, Unblocking Netflix, and in China

Trust.Zone can be a good VPN for torrenting, but it depends on the OS you are using. Windows users can use the Trust.Zone VPN Windows client, which comes with a kill switch to protect you in case the connection drops.

If you are using macOS or Linux, you can use other security options that offer custom VPN clients.

You may also be wondering if Trust.Zone can work with Netflix.

Well, the Trust.Zone client has dedicated services in the US that work with American Netflix. We tested and it worked perfectly.

Can you use Trust.Zone in China?

According to Trust.Zone, their VPN works in China if you use port 443. However, we were not able to test this.

Logging Policy

Trust.Zone claims to be a strict “no logs” VPN.

Here is the privacy policy of the VPN as posted on their websites about the data collected.

“What information is logged when customers connect to our VPN service?

All our VPN servers around the world ARE NOT storing any log files to keep your privacy safe. All the usage data is anonymous and not connected to your real, public IP address.”

Since Trust.Zone offers a free trial, it becomes obvious that they log bandwidth.  After all, their free trial is limited to only 1GB of data or 3 day, whichever comes first.

Trust.Zone used to show the amount of logged bandwidth under your account, but that feature is no longer available.

If you are concerned about this, then you may want to try other VPNs that don’t log bandwidth.

Conclusion

Trust.Zone is a basic, affordable VPN that still performs without any issues. It’s more like Private Internet Access, but offers a free trial and is located in a better jurisdiction.

Another pocket-friendly VPN service is NordVPN – it also offers more features.

In all the tests conducted for this review, Trust.Zone performed well. For people who are privacy-conscious, Trust.Zone offers a wide range of benefits such as no leaks, excellent kill switch, minimal bandwidth logs, and great jurisdiction.

When it comes to performance, Trust.Zone is one of the best we’ve tested.

If you are looking for a basic VPN, then you should definitely go for Trust.Zone. However, if you would prefer a VPN with excellent apps for all Operating Systems and devices, then you should opt for ExpressVPN.

Still not sure? Take advantage of the free trial to test out Trust.Zone.
