Memory Leaks and Other RAM Munchers to Watch Out For

My first review on Software Battle! was for the ultra popular web browser, Firefox. Although I gave it a very high rating and recommended that everyone start using it immediately, you may recall that I complained about a few problems with startup speed and memory usage. Asa Dotzler, the esteemed Mozilla employee he is, even commented with a few suggestions for solving my problems. Unfortunately none of them were able to solve my issues.

Today I stumbled across an interesting article detailing issues with a number of rogue Firefox extensions. While it turns out that I don’t have any of the memory leaking extensions installed, it’s a very helpful list for future reference of which extensions I should avoid. For those of you who don’t want to visit the original article, here is a rundown of the extensions that may be giving you problems.

    • Adblock
    • All-In-One Gestures
    • FasterFox
    • Firebug
    • ForecastFox
    • Google Browser Sync
    • Google Web Accelerator
    • IE Tab
    • Loki
    • Media Player Connectivity
    • Mouseless Browsing
    • SessionSaver
    • Tabbrowser Extensions
