Try New Photo Resizer For Yourself

The Future of Image Resizing May Be Closer Than I Thought

A man by the name of Patrick Swieskowski has just created something amazing. Remember that video that I posted a couple of days ago showing that new image resizing technology? While one of the men responsible for that incredibly impressive algorithm has been hired by Adobe, he left us all wondering when we would get to try it out for ourselves.

Thanks to Patrick Swieskowski, we can wonder no more. He has created an online demo of that very technology. The only catch - it can only shrink images right now. Luckily, he is working on a version that will expand images as well, and hopefully we can get a taste of that pretty soon.

After tinkering with what he calls “Seam Carving” on a few images, I can handily say that there are still a few kinks to be ironed out. Vertical resizing on my test pictures doesn’t work too well and I couldn’t get any of my pictures from deviantArt to open. No bother - there are plenty to choose from on Flickr.

If you only have time to visit one site today - let it be Patrick’s. His demo is really amazing and I can’t wait to see it be able to increase the size of images too.
