But Not in America?
Watch out Dell, Hewlett Packard (HP) is joining in the fun by offering Linux on some of their desktop computers. According to an Australian article, HP has just launched Red Hat powered desktops for the business and enterprise market. The AMD based HP dx2250 now comes loaded with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 right from the factory.
Unfortunately, after taking a look at HP’s United States store, I found no trace of Red Hat as a selectable option for the dx2250. The Intel variant, dx2300, does offer Red Flag Linux as one of it’s selectable operating systems - although it’s Chinese only.
So what does this mean? Is HP just testing the waters in Australia before they bring Linux to the states? Are we Americans too stuck in our ways with Windows? Let’s hear your reasons why HP seems to only be offering Linux in select countries.
